Mt Niles from Wapta Lake PL Scramble on 20-Aug-2016

Few weeks ago while walking the Iceline trail, I wondered why I had never scrambled Mount Niles, so with the awesome weather forecast I decided it was time to get to the top of Niles to enjoy the unique view of the Wapta Icefield. As timing is everything, it was the perfect day. We started to hike towards Sherbrooke lake at 8:30. Soon we reached Sherbrooke lake where we could see our objective from a distance along with perfect reflection shot in the lake

From Niles meadows we followed the Kane's route to the base of the mountains and up to the pinnacle followed by an easy scramble all the way to the summit. The GPS gave us 12.5 km and 1248 m elevation gain.

We spent time at the summit enjoying lunch in the sun and the 360 view....it was the "perfect day" in the Rockies.

One the way down we decided to take the shortcut through the gully above Niles meadows....then a mandatory stop at Sherbrooke lake where a brave member went for a short swim....we were all back at the car by 8PM and return to Calgary talking about world travel to keep the driver awake!

Thanks to new member Pam, Margaret, Arnold and Susan  for the great company, interesting discussions along the trail and waiting for your slow coordinator at the summit!!!. Celine C/S/P.
