Moose Mtn south outliers from Canyon Cr Scramble on 7-May-2016

The Moose Loop traverse offers scrambling, four peaks and great views. A particular down climb has been dubbed the crux but on this day, heat can assume that role, it was hot. Seven of us met at the Ing’s Mine parking lot and headed out on bikes ditching them at approximately the six km mark. It took a bit longer than expected to reach the shoulder as there is not an official trail through the trees.

Once the ridge was gained, we had a clear view of the traverse ahead. Moose Mountain was prominent in the northwest and Prairie Mountain to the south.

We descended a long scree gully and some sections were quite comparable to the scree on Yamnuska. Once back in the trees we found a trail that led us to the bikes. This was my first trip as a probationary coordinator. Thanks to John for taking on the role as my mentor and Yolande for behind the scenes work. Also, thank you to Janice, Shirley, Susan, Inge and Celine for joining me. Christine (C/S)
