Ink Pots snowshoe Snowshoeing on 12-Dec-2015
Leaving foggy Calgary behind us, the drive westward was beautiful with snowy mountains in the distance and frosted trees, and nice clear, dry highway.
We wore our microspikes up through Johnston’s Canyon, but plain boots would have been sufficient as the trail was all packed snow, rather than the usual ice. The creek had a lot of open water, with the ice curtains and frozen waterfalls partially formed and very beautiful. Despite the early stage of the ice, we watched several ice climbers near the upper falls.

We put on our snowshoes near the high point of the trail and wore them down to the Inkpots, and back to Moose Meadows on the return trip, but most of this route could be easily done without the use of snowshoes.
It was cloudy during our lunch at the Inkpots, but patches of blue skies and sunshine started to appear minutes after we started back through the trees.

Whiskeyjack
We saw a large female moose in a meadow off the 1A on the drive in, a Whiskeyjack at lunch and what appeared to be 2 sets of wolf tracks along the road on our walk back from the Moose Meadows to Johnston’s Canyon parking lot.
Thanks to Jennifer for calling this trip, enjoyed by: Denise, Mohsen, Teresa (p), Kathy and Barb (s,p).
