Goatview Peak Scramble on 29-Sep-2015
A very much less known mountain, Goatview (2804 m.) sits west of Goat Pond along the Spray reservoir. Although not well known, it is the peak noticeable as one climbs from Canmore to the Spray reservoir.

Goatview Peak
Starting at Goat Pond, we travelled along the south end of the peak. Great animal trails / old logging roads were prominent.

Blazed trail
Ascending the south ridge, we encountering difficult scrambling higher up.

Arnold on steep slabs
Our end point on the ridge was about 400 m south of the south peak.

Arnold and Alda on the ridge
The terrain further north looked too time consuming for our remaining time. Although sources such as the maps and sat photos suggest an easy ridge, it appears to be quite broken.

Broken ridge to south summit
However, views were great.

Mount Berrsheba (3054 m.) is a little known peak with an impressive north glacier, unfortunately not visible from this angle.

Beersheba Peak with Assiniboine behind
We decided to downclimb the east face. Although it required careful work, it gave us a shorter return than the ascent.
The lower creek showed amazing erosion from the recent floods.

Alda in the rubbly lower creek
We even encountered the Goatview glacier.

Thanks to Alda and Arnold for joining me on this exploration. Bill
