After a short break, we headed up the slope leading to the shoulder of Mount Carnarvon, After another short water break and donning our helmuts the group headed up the South ridge of Carnarvon. The ridge has a lot of varied scrambling terrain, with sections of solid blocks with good hand and foot holds.
There are great views of the surrounding mountains and terrain all along the route.
Near the upper section of the summit block we traversed left over a series of ledges to a gully, which led to the small summit ice cap.
A short walk soon brought us all to the summit of Mount Carnarvon.
We enjoyed a long lunch break on the windless summit, with spectacular 360 degree panoramic views.
We retraced our way back down the mountain, following our ascent route back down to the shoulder where a lengthy 'world problem solving session' occurred.
A quick run back down to the lake and then down the 5.5 km Hamilton Lake trail saw us back at the vehicles at 7:15 pm.
Thanks to Arnold, Damian, Greg, Brian and David for joining me Kevin (S/C) on a long but interesting Yoho scramble. Net elevation gain was 1740 metres and total distance was 17 km.
