Tent Ridge Horseshoe 154311, 146308 loop Scramble on 8-Aug-2015

We had beautiful weather and hiking conditions for this very scenic hike, with lots of wildlife sightings, both on the drive in and on the trail.  There were two beautiful young deer with velvet-covered antlers by the road on our drive in, a family of grouse in the wooded part of our trail into the meadows, a lovely young moose, also with velvet-covered rack on our trail out, and more deer and sheep on the drive back.

We did the horseshoe clockwise, starting on a narrow, overgrown trail with several fallen trees to climb over, coming out in the meadow where there were still lots of flowers along the brook. Turning into the woods again, we were soon at the base of the steep climb up onto the east section of the horseshoe.

Our only casualty of the trip came on the short scrambly section…one person’s hiking pole fell a short way down the steep slope, but slipped further out of safe access when another hiker attempted to go down to get it.  All humans got up the rocks intact.

Views were spectacular, and temperatures comfortable for hiking with only a light breeze.  We enjoyed ‘lunch’ stops on the tops of all 3 of the peaks.
