Rummel Pass 212341 Off-Trail hike on 27-Jun-2015

A superb summer day in Kananaskis was enjoyed by our gang as we were the first group up the trail, with Bruce doing the job of sweeping the spider webs off the route. We made it to the lake in 1 hr 25m where we took a short break and admired the scenery. As we climbed out of the lake basin there were a very few glacier lilies beside the trail:

As the trees opened up we had great views both ahead and behind:

It was a little windy in the pass but with the hot day it made it very pleasant for a leisurely lunch:

From that location we had a good view to the east down the Lost Lake Valley and beyond to the Galatea Creek drainage:

We headed back down on the rudimentary trail through the rocks:

It warmed up considerably as we lowered in altitude and lost the breeze in the forest, so when we arrived back at the lake our bravest member could not resist a very brief first swim of the year in a cold sub-alpine lake:

The rest settled for wading up to their knees at most. The trail out was pleasant with views to the west from the cutblock and patches of flowers along the trail:

Cold beverages waiting in coolers at the cars prepared us for the dusty drive along the Smith-Dorrien road.

The great company on this trip was provided by Mohsen, Bruce, Barbara, Kathy & Madeleine. Thanks everyone! Ron, C/S/P.

p.s. traffic was very slow and backed up account paving on the TransCanada around the bridge over the Kananaskis River. Our car exited on Highway 1X to drive the 1A to Morley where we returned to the TransCanada –hard to say if we saved time but at least we were moving.
