With clouds as far as the eye could see on our drive out, we were concerned that we wouldn’t be treated to the lovely views the Shark Lake trail can offer, but patches of blue sky started to appear as we neared the trailhead and it ended up being sunny throughout the day. Temperatures were good for our activity – starting out around -16 and finishing about -10 with no wind.
There was good snow in the area. Everyone we saw on the trail was snowshoeing, but there were lots of ski tracks from previous days.
We explored some spur trails which were less packed than the main trail, and came down a very nice off-trail route through openings in the trees, following some old tracks and breaking some new trail. When we came out to the main trail again, we met a large group from Calgary Nature Lovers club.
We had a sunny lunch at Shark (Marushka) Lake where one of the Nature Lovers took our photo.
Thanks to Leslie for taking the photos and to Susan and Bill for joining me on this enjoyable New Year’s outing Barb.
