Sawmill Trails / Headwall Creek loop Snowshoeing on 7-Jan-2012

Great day with a fun group in a little traveled area. We started at Chester trailhead and set out on the newly marked old ski trail. The only other group we saw on the trails all day was couple of fathers and their boys looking for a place to practice building a quinzy.

Once at the summer trail that leads to Headwall Lakes we set up the Headwall valley generally following the summer trail to start and then skirting an avalanche run off Mt. Chester. We made it as far as the rock fall and then found a place in the trees for lunch. On the return once we were past the avalanche run we headed for Headwall Creek and followed it all the way out to the road. The abundance of snow covered the deadfall although there were times the snow gave way around deadfall. Deciding to take our snowshoes off and hike back along the road we were back in the Chester parking lot at 3:30 - just in time to greet Stan's group arriving from the Rummel to Chester traverse.

Welcome to Trudy on her first Ramblers trip! Thanks to Kevin (photos) and Laszlo for helping with the trail breaking and to Ivan, Yoko, Janice, Mark, Trudy, Aldis and Brenda for a fun day spent mostly off the beaten track. David c/s/p
