Shadow Lake Trail Skiing on 2-Jan-2012

Stuart phoned me and told me about the Parks Canada avalanche bulletin discussing a size 3 on the smaller avalanche path we cross going up to Healy Pass. I then checked the web myself and decided I did n't want to run the gauntlet of the larger path the following day with a large group of people I want to ski with again. So I made calls ... wanted to do something ... I should have been more imaginative ... but this had one of the same trailheads as the original trip call ... so in the phone call flurry I decided on it. I was not comfortable taking 10+ people up the Healy Trail after a reported size 3 though Parks does not say whether it reached the trail.

Understandably a number of people who had done this less interesting trip bailed on this one but I was pleasantly surprised that Sim, Arnold, Clifton, Jeannine, Lisa and Peter still chose to join me, John on a pleasant day in the Rockies working off, for some of us, some Christmas overindulgence. I think we left just after 9 and I suspect the fast guys (not me - I tried and failed to destroy the fast guys skiing out of the steep section up to the lodge!). Back at the trailhead before 3:45. In case Stuart wants to call Twin Lakes - Gibbon FYI there is no trail anywhere beyond the lodge. Up to knee deep trail breaking in the meadow near the lodge.Happy New Year to all outdoor folks that read this "stuff" - we are lucky to live near this "stuff"
