Shark (Marushka) Lake and Kirsten Tarns Off-Trail Hike on 9-Oct-2011

Lots of wildlife along the road: 2 coyotes on Hwy 40 and a moose by Engadine Lodge. The fall colour along highway 40 was at it's peak - a drive worth taking.

The hike was pleasant; sheltered from the wind. The trip into Shark Lake is more scenic in the winter. Although the Kirsten Tarns were dry (one had a splash of water in it) the valley above Shark Lake is quite scenic and worth exploring. The tarns would be best viewed in early summer. The snow on the mountains added to the scenery, but snowline was high enough we did not have to hike in it.

Thanks to Karen, Kim, David, Susan, Bill, David, Janet and Brenda for a enjoyable day. David c/s/p
