Jewell Mountain - Twin Towers 323539 Off-Trail Hike on 27-Jun-2010

Seven of us left the parking lot at Barrier at 10:15 and hiked around Barrier lake to Jewel Pass where we followed the Jewel Pass Trail until we came to a waterfall. Here we turned left and bushwacked for quite a time until we finally emerged onto good ol' scree.

On the way up, Philip caught some calypso orchids shyly giggling at the camera but he also took lilies.

We all finally made the summit. Summit photo Francisco, Rosanne, Florence, Shirley, Christine and Elzbieta (Philip photographer). (some arrived at 2 pm, but some arrived at 2:30 pm) and ate a very late lunch.

After some discussion, we all decided to go down the gulley which led onto a meadow where we followed a drainage down (this drainage led to the waterfall). We reached the main trail and had a snack before returning to the cars at 6 pm.

Thanks to Francisco G, Philip C, Rosanne C, Florence D, Shiela S, and Elzbiet L for really fine day out bush and scree whacking. The view and the company made it worthwhile.

It should be noted that an alternative way up and possibly an easier one, involves hiking up beyond the waterfall to an open gully which leads up to the summit. Near the summit is a scramble 5 for a very short section.
