Mt Lipsett Trail Trail Skiing on 21-Nov-2009

A little too windy at the top, but otherwise an excellent day with far better snow than two years ago.
We set off up the trail a little after 9:00. Those with 1/2 skins or wooden skis and wax struggled a little on the short steep stretch right near the beginning. After that we just followed the gradually climbing road to the south flank of Mt Lipsett. Road is becoming more and more of a misnomer. You could supply a christmas tree lot with cuttings and make the ski back down a lot easier (but less interesting). Near the top the snow was somewhat windblown and two elected to drop skis and walk the exposed ridge to the end of the trail.

Where the two routes met up, the rest of us took skis off and we all headed up towards the peak.

Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate and the wind blew up very strongly.

Most had made the peak on earlier ski or hiking trips, and the others didn't care to go on anyway, and so we turned around at the southern outlier of the peak of Mt Lipsett.

The trip down was quick and fun.

We were back at the cars by 2:30, allowing the Old Goats in the group plenty of time to get to their annual slide show.

Many thanks to Christine for calling the trip, participants Sim, Yolande, Bob, David, Jim, and Carl (scribe).
