Midnight Peak 380492 via Baldy Pass Off-Trail Hike on 15-Oct-2008
We had a great day heading up to Midnight Peak from Baldy Pass and returning via the west ridge. It was quite cool in the morning, but we warmed up quickly enough on the climb. And the sky remained clear in spite of a forecast calling for clouding over.
We were up to Baldy Pass within about an hour.

Climbing to Midnight Peak And we were at the top of Midnight Peak after another 1 1/2 hours.

Topping out on Midnight Peak It was a little windy and cool on top but we sheltered on the leeward side for lunch after enjoying spectacular views in all directions.

Bogart through Lougheed from Midnight PeakWe elected to descend via the west ridge as described by Bob Spirko on his website and I think as led by Jim two years ago. The "normal" Rambler descent seems to be via the northwest ridge.:

West ridge of Midnight Peak Arnold was out partly to see if he could spot any more of the golden eagles that are migrating through. And one entertained us by patrolling the ridge as we descended. At one point he was quite close and actually below us.

Golden eagle that accompanied us down the ridgeThe descent down the west ridge was very pleasant and the drop from the ridge down to the Baldy Pass trail was steep but manageable.

Descending from the west ridge of Midnight Peak to Baldy Pass trail Our car to car time was six hours.
Many thanks to Nancy, and Arnold for joining me, Carl (C/S).
