Little Temple - Temple Lake loop Off-Trail Hike on 28-Sep-2008

A brilliant sunny day usually makes for a good hike, add in a great group and it can’t be beat! The air was quite fresh at the start waiting for completion of the car shuttle, then it was off to Lake Annette for the trail portion of the trip. It was chilly at the lake in the shade of Mount Temple and there was still a few pieces of ice along the edge:

The access to the ridge above was a little challenging with frozen ground so two participants took the gully while the rest attained the ridge and eventually reached the sunshine in the upper larches:

We then clambered up the scree, with some of the rocks splotched with natural route markers:

The summit was reached a little after 1:00 where we had terrific views:

Then we descended to the Temple – Little Temple col:

from where we took the steep grassy ramp down to Temple Lake. As we walked along the shore we came across needles of gold piled among the rocks:

We had time to relax in the warm sun at the east end of the lake before the sun went hiding behind its namesake peak.

p.s. the walk down Temple Creek was quite beautiful, at the start there was a pathway strewn with golden needles and the creek had interesting patterns of leaves, larch needles and algae:
