Coffin Mountain Off-Trail Hike on 15-Jun-2008
It was beautiful weather for this ridge traverse with minimal snow along the ridge. We ascended the west outlier using an old logging road to get us to the base,

Janet and Joan descending from a small buttress on the west outlier

Coffin Mountain - the west outlier approach to the summit ridge

Janet exploring snow filled rock cracks on the west outlier then traversed south to the summit. After lunch at the summit,

Bob, Janet, Joan, and Sim on the summit of Coffin Mountain in a cool wind we traversed south on a broad ridge to a scree gully which took us most of the way down to another old logging road.

Heading down the scree slope We then hiked out along this track back to the forestry road completing a loop.

On the way back There was a small amount of bush to get up to the west outlier with some fun slabs about 3/4 of the way up making it an SC-5 for a short distance. These slabs may have been avoidable but we didn't really bother to check.
A highly recommended scramble with slab and easy rock on the way up, a broad ridge hike with scree on the way down. Present were Alda, Sim, Joan, Janet and Bob coordinator and scribe. Thanks for coming out, ladies.
