Lusk Creek to Lusk Pass Trail Skiing on 12-Feb-2008

A fine day on the trail in the company of two lovely ladies.
The views along this trail (especially of the back side of Mt Baldy) are much improved due to the logging by Spray Lakes Sawmills. They've cut to within a few feet of the Lusk Creek equestrian trail, but have left it intact.

The Lusk Creek loop and the North Baldy Pass trail would seem to have been wiped out.

The trail climbs pretty steadily and the temperature was near 0, so we had some challenges with waxing throughout the day. There was generally a few inches of new snow on top of a few inches of old. But in spots we were scraping the dirt and stones of the summer trail. We got to Lusk Pass shortly after noon and had lunch there.

It was a strong group and so we decided to continue down the other side to the Lusk Pass trail head on the Powderface Trail before returning. We were back at the car shortly after three, making for a five hour elapsed time trip.
If anyone wishes to repeat this trip, it now makes sense to park at the Lusk Creek picnic area and walk back on hwy 68 a 100 m or so before climbing up to the bench on the south side of the creek where the trail is easy to find. Daffern's description would have you start from Stoney Creek campground, but that would mean you would have to cross a logging road.
Many thanks to Becky and Joan for joining me, Carl (C/S)
