It was the best of weather, it was the worst of weather: We had a great start to the trip. We were working out driving arrangements when Rene arrived in her new Toyota Sienna. We all drove up together in style. The start of the trail was beautiful and the larches were almost at their peak.

The weather deteriorated as we went further but we still had fun.

We had some discussion about giving up but went on and made the pass.
