Burstall Pass to viewpoint 140240 Trail Hike on 8-Sep-2007

As we left the city under clear blue skies, we could see a dusting of fresh snow on the mountains and more blue sky! After driving thru some low cloud banks on highway 40, we were rewarded again with clear blue sky as soon as we turned onto the Spray Lakes road. At the trailhead, it looked like there had been a freezing rain or sleet overnight as all the vegetation was covered with crusty, frosty stuff.

We were pleased to find the flood plain had very little water running - it was shallow enough to easily get across.

As we gained elevation, we found a bit of snow, especially in the shade, although this was all melted by the time we came back.

There was a light breeze at the pass - but it was enough to be chilly if the sun went under a cloud. Temperature at the pass was about 4C. We had a leisurely lunch in the shelter of some trees near the view point.

A few flakes of snow were in the air for a short time on the way back, but soon the sun was out again. All in all, it was a great day! Thanks to Emily, Linda & Ron for some great company! Brenda c/s
