Upper Kananaskis River Viewpoint 256114 Off-Trail Hike on 8-Jul-2007
A large group of 19 Ramblers left the Interlakes parking lot around 10:15 under partly cloudy skies. We passed across the outlet to the Upper Kananaskis Lake, observed by the resident rabbit.

The trip above the lake to the first creek was uneventful and we regrouped at the first bridge before leaving the main trail.

From this point on the route followed an abandoned lumber road, an old fire break up a steep hillside then well used game trails, replete with deadfall on up to the first high point. We stopped for half our lunches then continued on to a slightly higher point to the NW for dessert.

Both spots provided great views of the surrounding lakes and mountains.

Fortunately a pleasant breeze kept most mosquitoes at bay at the high spots, but they were abundant in the forest on the return trip. We noticed that the volume of water in the falls by Astor Lake had increased significantly over the day although temperatures were around 16 at elevation.

We returned to the cars shortly after five after another rewarding day in the mountains.Participants were Laszlo, Jim, Ron, Kay, Susan, Karen, Nancy, Marietta, Bill, Robert, Kathy, Mario, Wally, Rosanne, Paul,Eva, guest Maria and Philip (scribe). We all thank Francisco for coordinating a trip that was new to most.
