Purple Bowl Off-trail Skiing on 28-Dec-2006

Treat yourself. If you have never skied the Purple Wolverine Bowl add it to your list of "must do" trips. Carl, Carmie and I left Calgary at 7:30 and started up the Lake Louise ski out at 10:30 am.

Just before we reached the Larch trail, we met two avalanche patrollers who assured us that the slopes were in good shape for skiing. Just below the base of Redoubt, about 150 metres past the Larch trail, we followed the obvious cutline up to the bowl. (We were in the shade so it was quite chilly -12 on Carl's thermometer, but it actually felt a lot colder.)

We made our way up the bowl and into the sun.

The views were absolutely stupendous - as Carmie said, the snow was like silk. Brilliant blue sky. We climbed partly up to col before deciding to have another lunch and descending.

Great ski out - we were back at the car by 3:30 Carmie and I were squealing with delight - Carl did not squeal - he grunted in joy). Now, don't you wish you were there to join in the squealing and grunting?

By the way, Chic Scott calls this bowl Purple, the Lake Louise and the avalanche patrol call it Wolverine Bowl.
