Crowsnest Pass Area: Phillips & Sentry Scramble on 8-Sep-2006
Four of us drove down to Chinook Campground on the Allison Creek Road west of Crowsnest. Thanks to Yolande, we were able to find a good campsite near the lake (some of our neighbours were somewhat noisy-obviously not scramblers.
On Saturday, we climbed Mt.Phillipps (starting time 10 am) the Alan Kane route. Two of us made the summit; the very last section involves a small exposed ridge and scramble up a two metre gulley. We finished early, and the four of us headed for the Cinemon Bear for coffee ( 4 pm) and snacks before heading back to campground.

The top of PhillippsSunday, we packed up and left to climb Sentry Mt. This was lomger than Phillipps. The ridge had solid rock, but there was a high wind and there were about five buttresses to climb over. It was possible, though, to traverse around the base, but this was more of a scree bash. You can turn this into a sramble 6 or a scree bash, depending upon the route you take. I would recommend helmets for this scramble because of the loose rock. Rick and I summited at 2:30. At 3 pm we descended, reaching the car at 6. We had wonderful meals; two super suppers and pancakes for breakfast. Thanks to Rick, Carmie and Yolande.
