We hiked along the Baril Creek trail starting at 11 and arriving are our camping spot at 4. (The point at which the creek from Armstrong and the old road meet.)After making the camp, three of us scrambled up Mt. Bolton going us the east side and coming down the south towards Fording River Pass which was really spectacular. We arrived back to the camp at 7.
Sunday three of us attempted to climb both Baril and Cornwell, one of us actually made both summits. Baril Mtn was quite blocky and made for time consuming climbing. We started from the camp down the old road about.5 km before heading southwest along the base of an unnamed hump. Up the drainage to the end of the valley, where we crossed and ascended up the meadows at the base of Baril and Cornwell. We followed the ridge from the low point to the high point. Bob and I, met Sim descending. She went on to climb Cornwell, whereas Bob and I were happy to sign the soggy register (1991 last recorded entrances were Bob Saunders, Rick Collier and Reg Bonney) before slowly descending the way we came, arriving back at the camp at 8.
The next morning, three of us got up at the crack of 9 am, had a leisurely breakfast and waited for Sim to return from Mt. Armstrong, thus making this her 400 climbed peak.
At noon, we headed back down the trail, reaching the cars at 4. This is a spectacular area; well worth the visit.Christine
