Boom Lake to Taylor Lake Traverse Off-trail Skiing on 18-Mar-2006
Four of us completed the traverse from Boom Lake to intercept the Taylor Lake trail. Unfortunately, we missed both lakes but the snowshoers lucked out. In the first part of the day, we had a mixture of sun and cloud and wet snow. We used Mount Bell as our guide. We traversed the base of Mt Bell and tried to find the summer trail which is described in Brian Paton's book Trail Guides in the Canadian Rockies. Occasionally, we did see the odd hiking marker and blaze; however, trail finding was difficult. We alternated between skiing in open meadows and bushwacking. We did put in a trail for Cornelis. The entire trip took eight hours; highly recommended only next time I will get to the lakes and coordinate the trip to meet with the snowshoers. 16 kilometers. Yves Flottat and Mount Bell.
Thanks to Bob West and Yves Flottat for route finding and Sim Galloway.
