Lady MacDonald ( Summit Ridge ) Off-Trail Hike on 29-Oct-2005

Seven Ramblers set of at the Cougar Creek trailhead at 10:45 AM. Down in the valley the temperature was +10'C. The day offered patches of sun and some snow. We made our way up to the abandoned teahouse (835m elevation gain), the final ascent via a steep grassy slope leading up to the ridge. We enjoyed the view from the teahouse. Dark purple snow-clouds hung over the peaks to the North, punctuated by whisps of white cloud and blue sky. At this point, the faster hikers went ahead, the others climbing up to the summit at a more leasurely pace, gaining another 274m altitude to 2499m. We stopped just short of the snow and ice-covered knife-edge ridge.

All of us made it up to the summit range for lunch, where we lingered for a long time enjoying the magnificent view.

At that time the sun came out to illuminate the peaks to the South and East, some light snow started to fall. In the low sun light and wind, the falling snow formed long, wavy translucent curtains.
