Cirque Peak Off-Trail Hike on 21-Aug-2005

Ten of us showed up bright and early to climb Cirque Peak on a cloudless day. It only took an hour's hiking to get above tree line and enjoy open vistas. We had a short break at Helen Lake before starting up through the headwall and onto the ridge of our peak. Several marmot youngsters entertained us along the way. The scree just before the summit was a little tedious, but we survived and scrambled around the right side of the lower peak to get to the main summit

. The view was exceptional: Wapta icefield to the West and endless peaks in all directions

. To the East we saw Isabella Lake and many unfamiliar peaks. After about half an hour the breeze got too fresh for some people and we headed down to Helen Lake again

. This time most of us took off our boots and cooled our feet off in the water and then lounged around on the grassy beach. What a life!. We then headed back, some of us to a delicious supper in Lake Louise, others directly back to town. Participants:Tony L.,Ghulam J.
