Piggy Plus - Burstall col Off-Trail hike on 7-Sep-2023
A lovely day that reminds you that the only thing as good as summer hiking is autumn hiking. There is a good trail over the rock glacier to the col, and we climbed a bit higher on the ridge for lunch views including a large mountain goat grazing below the French glacier. Then we enjoyed several hours exploring the benches and having a snack in the sun before the uneventful walk back. As a side note, there were a surprising number of early-season flowers blooming among the mushrooms and fall foliage, including golden fleabane, arnica, and forget-me-not.
