Paget Peak Off-Trail hike on 2-Sep-2023
Paget Peak, giving it's name to Paget limestone which can be viewed in the area. The sedimentary strada, laid down generally in a horizontal or closely to pattern, in a in a long past seabed was the first step here in mountain building. The Rocky Mountain Lower Cambrian, basically quartzitie sandstone & siliceous shales had the spiral tunnel pushed thru. In the Middle Cambrain, which contains many forms of life, as vissible in the Stephen formation, Mt Stephen, Burgess Shale, Mt Field, this also progresses into the Upper Cambrian, with Bosworth, Paget & Sherbrooke formations.

Nice views from Paget Peak.

Nice example of colorful rock formations. Spending our time here today, dropping down to the bench below the third highpoint exposes some of this past history. Possibly petrified wood, was was a branch of a tree, or part of ancient flora or fauna.

Possibly a example of petrified wood.

Rock formations on this part of bench. For the greater part the bench traverse was easy going, a few places bigger rock stepping was required, but still manageable, meeting up with the accent trail as we hike around the flank. Cooler breeze higher up sooon vanished as we moved back in valley. A nice day, pleasent views, with smoke at a mild level. I thank all for joining in on this trip, and opening new ideas.
