Trip Date:

Activity:
Trail hike
Trip name:
Moose Mtn L/O trail
Coordinator:
Carl
Report:

We had a fine day up and down the regular Moose Mtn trail.
We left the trailhead at 9:30, by which time the parking was already very busy. And made the summit at 11:30 at a fairly quick Rambler pace. We stopped only a few times for nature breaks.
Note that you can no longer actually go to the summit of Moose Mtn. With the installation of the new lookout two years ago they have barricaded off the top of the mountain. So you cannot get to within maybe 8 m vertical, 30 m horizontal without crossing strident Private Property No Trespassing barriers.
There is a decent resting area at the end of the trail, including a picnic bench.

Marianne, Dean, John, Alda, Cheryl and Deb on Moose Mtn

We stayed for about 30 minutes, partially to watch three mountain bikers who were trying to go to the north summit and on to Jumpingpound Mtn. The traverse to the north summit is a lot of OT5 and some SC5 terrain, they seemed to take about 10 minute to advance 20 m!
While the weather was really nice when we started, it gradually became fairly overcast. So we just marched back to the trailhead in a little under two hours.

Many thanks to participants: Dean,Alda,John,Marianne,Deb, and especially new Rambler Cheryl for joining me, Carl (C/S).
