The wind in the Ribbon Creek parking lot was a hint that today was a good day for kite flying rather than hiking. We started off up Centennial Trail and made it above treeline where we stopped to put on more clothing. We seemed to be under a patch of blue sky but surrounding us in the mountains were dark, threatening clouds. Nevertheless, we persevered and continued up and over various bumps. We met a couple of fellas coming down who told us that the wind was fierce and there was snow further up. We climbed a total of 776 metres before deciding that the wind gusts were too strong and so returned to treeline. Rather than head straight for the parking lot, we wandered around the Ribbon Creek trails which were sunny and wind protected and ended up having a 10 km hike. Thanks to Susan, Bill, Jim, Kim, Janice and Rob for turning this into a fun day.

Christine
