At the parking lot only 1 cm of new snow on a hard crust.I had visions of skiing dust on crust. But as they say a bad day in the mountains is better than a good day at work! However six inches of new at the base of the climb into the col made things a whole lot better. John set a perfect line into the base of the Whymper slide path making the ascent seem easy .
