The large parking lot at the the trailhead was closed due to the construction of a new education centre, indicating that there is some major upgrading taking place in the park. As the start of the trail a bear warning sign was posted, but since it was dated July 11, we didn’t take much notice. However, we followed reasonably fresh bear scat for almost the entire duration of the hike.

The weather was more or less as forecast and there was a Chinook arch over Moose Mountain to the west.

There was some snowy sections in the coulees, but most people did not feel the need for traction devices to navigate these short stretches. On the way back, we were surprised to encounter another new structure that looks as if it is intended as shelter, despite being open on all four sides.

Although track setting in Kananaskis is no longer being funded by the province, it would seem that there is major funding for some of the parks. We were back at the cars about 2 PM after a pleasant hike.

Thanks to Brieta, Marianne ,Madeleine, Darlene, Carmie, Linda, and Robert for joining me. Brian C/S/P
