We were all looking forward to going up Moose Mountain after a hiatus of 2 years while the new lookout was being built, but the increasing snow depth and ice on the access road forced us to turn around. We regrouped at the bottom of the road and decided on Powderface Ridge. Two other large groups had also changed their destinations to Powderface because of conditions on their original planned hikes, so it was a busy trail. But a few of us ran into people we knew so it was nice to catch up.

The sun was out all day, but the wind on the ridge was fierce. We travelled south on the ridge and found a sheltered spot by the big rock pile for lunch, then continued along the ridge to meet up with the official trail by Rainy Summit. Most groups we saw went the same route (both directions), so it’s not a secret way anymore.

The day was marred a bit for the coordinator due to a slip and fall resulting in a wrist injury, but fortunately nothing is broken and hand function improved throughout the day. Special thanks to my gang of guardian angels who, in order: wrapped my arm in a tensor, adjusted my hiking pole, made sure I could get my pack on and off, stepped in to co-coordinate the remainder of the trip, made an ice pack with snow, offered to drive me home, and actually drove my car home with masks and me in the back seat. You all know who you are. :)

Participants: Rosanne,Philip,Sim,Alicja,Janice,Barb photos,Audrey,Cristina photos,Marianne, and grateful coordinator Ingrid.
