Nine of us set out under blue skies from the trail head opposite the Baymag Plant at 8:30 am. Unfortunately one intended participant was unable to find the meet up point and missed being on the trip.We followed the established trail for 600 vertical metres up through the forested slope, where we encountered the first cliff band. We donned our helmets and after a brief break followed the bypass to the right of the first cliff band.

We bypassed the second cliff band on the left and then above the second cliff band, the group split into two. Five headed straight up and scrambled up the third cliff and four others traversed to the right and followed the route upwards along the base of the third cliff band.

Reuniting at the top of the third cliff band

Both groups reached the top of the third cliff band within minutes of each other. From there we began the traverse along the long narrow ridge over to the summit of Gap Peak.

Beginning the traverse of the summit ridge

The route along the summit ridge was free of snow except for one very short section.

The group spent a long lunch on the summit enjoying the views and solving world problems. Brian serenaded us with the theme from "The Sound of Music" and Katrin and Toshiko had a conversation in Mandarin.

The group then retraced our steps back along the summit ridge to the top of the third cliff band.

There the group again split, with six following the easier route back down along the base of the third cliff band, while three chose a route back down through the cliff band. We all reunited at the top of the second cliff band. Lower down at tree line, one of the participants has issue with their IT band muscle on their leg. This resulted in a slower pace down through the trees and additional stops to allow them to rest the muscle. We were all back at the vehicles by 3:15 PM.

Thanks to Sim,Alda,Brian,,Bruce,Katrin,John,Simon,Toshiko for their great company and for joining me ,Kevin (C/S), on a magnificent day of scrambling in the mountains
