Every time I go to Wasootch Ridge the views never cease to amaze me. Today was no exception. The blue skies with moving clouds, in contrast with the white snow and dark mountains, were a feast to the eye. We arrived at the Wasootch parking lot shortly before 9:00 am. It was very windy with the temperature about -2°. One person was wearing snowshoes from the beginning, the rest of us put micro-spikes on with the exception of another person who decided to try the partially broken trail without traction devices. In the beginning the snow was about a foot deep, but further up it was much deeper. After about two hours of walking on the ridge, one Rambler decided to go back, and another one agreed to accompany him back, so five of us continued the walk on the ridge. We had to put our snowshoes on as the snow got deeper. Our objective was to go to the second cairn, but the wind was too strong to continue the trip. We had a quick lunch shortly before 1:00 pm and were on our way back to the cars. The walk back was quite pleasant, the wind gusts were less frequent, and at some places there was no wind at all. We were back at the cars shortly after 3:00 pm., and in Calgary at 4:30 pm. According to Cristina’s GPS we traveled 9.5 km with 976 m of combined elevation and the maximum elevation of 1995m. Thank you to Cristina (pictures), Christine, Brian, David, Glenda, and Thomas (new member on the first trip with Ramblers) for joining me on this winter trip.
