This trip was planned for Friday as this day was forecast to be the change day between a warm sunny week (zero c) and a freezing cold (-25c) weekend. The forecast was correct and the trip went well. The weather varied from -12c to -8c with some cloud and snow flurries, no sun and some wind but we were mostly in trees.

We left the trailhead at the base of the Sunshine Road just as Clifton showed up from Canmore having decided to join us at the last minute. It was about 9.30am. The Healy Creek trail had thin snow cover but was (sort of) track set. We made good time to the juction with Brewster Creek which we ascended all on wax. As we skied higher, the snow improved and there was an old track set throughout. Quite good. We passed 2 snowshoers and later 2 snowmobiles coming out and enjoyed a short break about 11.00am

Peter, Christine, Jim and Clifton take a break enroute to Sundance Lodge

Then to the lodge by 12.30pm where the staff member invited us in for coffee to accompany our lunch. It was comfortable, warm and had flush toilets.

Refreshed, we started back down by 1.30pm in increasing snow flurries

Clifton, Peter, Jim and Christine prepare to leave Sundance Lodge

. We passed several skiers going into Sundance Lodge before emerging at the trailhead about 3.40pm. Four of us, all in Peter's nice SUV, stopped in Canmore Tim Hortons for refreshments before arriving in snowy Calgary by 5.30pm after a comfortable drive. Thanks Peter. A good trip for a cloudy day since there aren't many views to be had on this well graded trail anyway. Stats: 19km, 210m elevation gain, 6hrs total, no avi hazard.
