Things started out very nicely, arriving at the pull-out on HWY 40 at 10:15, ready to ski the old road to Pocaterra and then onward where our spirits would take us. It was a chilly -9C start, but with bright sun and little wind, we were soon warm and chatty, enjoying what was a new approach to a very familiar area. At the Pocaterra junction, we made a left, tramped up to the Whiskey Jack junction and then, seeing nice grooming (Thanks, Jody!) we continued on past the Lookout junction and onto Tyrwhitt for about 3 km. The bushes poked out of the thin snow cover, but the views were lovely, as always.

Then, we made the BIG MISTAKE, for which Chip (as co-ordinator) must take full blame. On the basis of SkierBob's report, we decided to descend to Pocaterra Hut. Well, on the way down, we encountered fallen trees the size of PEI, ski-grabbing rocks and grass, ice under a micrometre of snow and other hazards that made this descent (it was unanimously agreed), the worst track skiing anyone could recall.

But it was still a beautiful day.
