Pretty warm but not intolerable. Great views from the top.
We left the car shortly before 11 and immediately felt that Joe's observation that "This must be pretty steep if it climbs that much in that little distance." was applicable. The few (very few) shady bits on the route up were welcome rest spots. We made it to the top around 1.

After a lunch break we descended to the col and had another break. There was a welcome breeze blowing through the col.
