It was another beautiful day in the mountains. We arrived at Upper Kananaskis Day Use area shortly before 10:00 am. The temperature on Highway 40 was -2℃ but at the parking lot, it dropped to -9℃. There were few cars on the parking lot, but we had the trail to ourselves all the way up to Rawson Lake. There were a few fishing tents on Upper Kananaskis Lake.

It took us about an hour to snowshoe to the lake, where we had a short snack break. The lake looked deserted, but at the very end of it we noticed two people. The trail to the lake was very good. One Rambler decided to wear micro spikes, but the rest of us had snowshoes all the way. On our way back, the trail became crowded with many people heading up to the lake.

We were back at the cars at about 11:40, so we decided to take Canadian Mt. Everest Expedition Interpretive trail to the view point. We decided to leave our snowshoes behind, so most of us wore micro spikes. The snow was not too deep at the lake level, so it was fine.

We had lunch in the sun on the bench at Upper Kananaskis Lake. Soon after, we encountered a little speed bump. We were on the trail to the view point, or so we thought. It happens that we followed the Upper Kananaskis Lake Circuit trail and missed Mt. Everest loop. It looked like nobody was on Mt. Everest trail since the fall of fresh snow. We turned back and found the right trail, however we had to break it all the way up to the view point.

Walking and talking does not help in trail finding, but the discussions on variety of topics were quite interesting. We were back at the cars before 3:00 pm and in Calgary shortly before 5:00.

Big thanks to Sonja, Lenard, Laszlo, Cristina for awesome company, scribe Teresa
