We were a bit concerned about visibility as we drove through mist or smoke on the approach to Scott Lake hill heading out of Calgary. It cleared as we got closer to Canmore with no sign of smoke from the Verdant creek fire affecting our views all day. The drive along the Spray Lakes road to the parking lot is very washboardy rattling my car until I was afraid bolts would come loose.

Sparrowhawk tarns was a very enjoyable hike with the trees sheltering us from the sun until we reached the open area where it was pleasantly cool compared to the heat of the last few weeks. It is a beautiful valley where one can amble towards the tarns while looking up at Read's Tower, Sparrowhawk Mt. and Red Ridge as well as the ridge leading up to Bogart. This was a new hike for two of the members and enjoyed by the five of us.
