L O'Hara via Fire Road Trail skiing on 28-Dec-2023

Nice temperatures and good snow conditions made for a rewarding tour to Lake O'hara. We started out with -4C temperatures and it seemed to remain near that the whole day. There was sufficient loose snow on a packed track to allow for ascent of the hills without skins. Chip wanted to try out skins he received with his recently purchased touring skis, so put them on for the bigger hills before the hut.

We arrived at the Relais Hut shortly after 12:30 and decided to have lunch before a ski around the lake. It was luxury to sit at a picnic table and benches out of the snow.

After lunch a short ski on the lake to where a slushy surface was encountered.

Two participants headed to the shore where a trail around the cabins was found for a very short tour back to the main hotel building. The balance of the group returned to the warden cabin in anticipation for the mainly downhill run to the parking lot.

The return trip was one of the nicer and faster runs I have had with ample ability to slow down when required.

We returned to the cars around 2:45pm
Although cloudy in the morning the sun began to make its presence felt on the return trip.

I would say a very rewarding ski was enjoyed by Sim,Leslie,Carl,Chip,Jane, and Tina. Thanks to all for joining the trip and to good conversation shared along the way.

Thanks to Tina Chip and Leslie for photos.
