Porcupine Ridge snowshoe Snowshoeing on 15-Jan-2022

Another enjoyable day in the mountains. We donned our mircospikes at the Wasootch parking lot and headed across the connector trail to Porcupine Creek. As we made our way up the creek, we had to navigate a few creek crossing, made a little more challenging by the lack of any log assists (except for one).

The trail was packed so microspikes worked well, so getting to where the ridge views opened up was no problem.

We had all lugged our snowshoes along on our packs and decided at this point that they weren't required at all this day, and stashed them to lessen our pack weights. We made good progress up the upper section of the ridge and arrived at the short scramble section.

The rock was bare, so even in microspikes, the group had no problems getting getting up this section of the ridge.

Some of the group chose a more challenging route, while others opted for an easier route.

The group traversed the narrow ridge section above and then chose our lunch spot at a wider flat section with great views in all directions.

After a pleasant lunch stop (mild temperature, but some wind), we retraced our route back down the ridge and retrieved our snow shoes.

The path down was one of lots of humour and song, including a Japanese version of "Sukiaki". The group navigated the creek crossings without incident and at the last crossing, some members of the group demonstrated various "Creek Ballet" poses.

We were back at the vehicles by 3:30 PM having had a great January outing in K Country. Thanks to Brian, Christine, Peter, Mikako, Tomiji and Glenda for their laughter and lively conversation and for joining me Kevin (C/S) on another day in the mountains.
