We were ready to hike from Black Prince parking lot but one Rambler was missing. He had a flat tire not far from the trailhead. A few of us saw him on the roadside of Hwy 40 and knew something was amiss but didn’t make the connection about a car issue until later when an email arrived. We missed you John D, the group was hoping to catch up with you! Meanwhile, when I read Bob Spirko’s trip report to this area it peaked my interest as I had never been there, as it turned out, none of the group had been to the North Ridge of Warspite. Because three of us were armed with Spirko’s GPS track there was no way we could miss our target. Making our way to Warspite Lake and later across a bolder field we reached the Warspite Cascade. A trail led us to a cirque that was lit up with vibrant fall colors, it was here we eyed a steep slope on the left that lead to the saddle of our ridge. While ascending the slope there was a mountain goat lounging higher up, a welcome distraction. Once on the col we veered north and arrived at the top around noon where we enjoyed the views and indulged in food. Carl was able to identify most area peaks. We could see Black Prince Lake below and after lunch returned to the col taking advantage of a good scree run down. We then drifted left and ascended 100 metres over a moraine to the lake where we arrived around 1:30 p.m. It was threatening rain so we didn’t linger and hooked up with a trail back to Warspite Lake. Stats from Damian’s GPS: 13.3 km and 950 metres total elevation gain. Thank you Ricardo,John,Damian,Carl,Janice,Jane,Glenda. for a lovely, fun day in the mountains. Christine c/s/p
