It was cool and windy when we arrived at the parking lot, but snow conditions were as reported -- good coverage and a well packed trail.

Enough snow

Poles either hit the road or an ice crust from time to time, I couldn't tell which, but skis never hit a pebble. Later in the day there was plenty of snow for braking on the downhill stretches which is always a challenge on skinny skis. We paused for a snack at the picnic table at km 5 on the way in then soldiered on to our lunch spot on the porch of "Le Relais" just short of the lake. On the way in we met members of a group of about 16 who had spent the night at the Elizabeth Parker hut and later in the day we saw more heading in. The popularity of the overnighting accounts for the well packed, fast trail.

A bit of sun

After lunch we headed over to the dock at the lodge for a look at the lake and a few pictures. There were still a few patches of open water.

Lake O'Hara

All accounted for (but need longer arms for selfies)

The return trip was fast and uneventful (for most). Since we were well ahead of schedule, we stopped for coffee etc. at the hostel in Lake Louise before heading home.

Trip stats were 22.6km and 530m elevation gain in a total of about 5 hours. My favourite is the fastest kilometer at 16.7 km/hr, sure beats hiking along a road!

My thanks to all for their company.
