Windy Point, Gleason Ridge, E. Canyon Creek Off-Trail hike on 13-Nov-
Bright blue skies, although Windy Point lived up to it's name! Once we got past Windy point the route along the ridge was more sheltered and quite pleasant with fine views to the west. We hiked to what Daffern describes as the 5th bump where we found a sheltered spot on a grassy hillside in the sun. After about 45 min the sun went behind the chinook clouds and that was the end of lunch!
The route over the 6th bump and down to the cutline was a bushwack in a lot of deadfall. The cutline was easy to identify although it is starting to get overgrown. We followed the cutline til we found a small trail to the left with slashes on the trees either side of it. We followed that route south until we got closer to the road and then we turned slightly west thru open forest and came out just west of the cars.
The three people who were tracking distance showed either 8.8 km or 9.4 km for the loop.
Thanks to a great group for a lovely day in the Sheep: Jane, Jeannette, Karen, David, Ron, Susan, Bill, Rosanne, Philip, Ginger. Brenda c/s/p
