Grotto Mtn via ACC clubhouse route Scramble on 12-Apr-2016
With the threat of unsettled weather coming in on Wednesday, I put up a last minute trip to Grotto Mountain. Luckily, Alda had returned from her southern migration, Kevin was up to a day out and Barb was also in, so we ended up with a nice size group of four.
The direct route is my favourite way of getting up as it has a good trail most of the way and it is scenic even below treeline, providing views into the great cirque of Echo Canyon.

Above treeline, we started to feel the light wind and we put on toques and wind jackets.
At the top, we had good views of the peaks, as far west as the Monarch and south to Sir Douglas. We moved off the ridge out of the wind for lunch, where the sun warmed us.

Although chilly along the ridge, it is always a pleasant walk. Part way along there is a hole in the ridge.

A bit of snow was still present, but the ridge was mostly dry.

Once down in the trees, we shed the extra layers and enjoyed summer temperatures.
Thanks to Alda, Barbara and Kevin for joining me.
