Mt Kidd South Peak 256379 via Guinn's Pass Off-Trail hike on 27-Sep-2
It was a glorious day, albeit, a bit windy and cold as we made our way up to Guinn's Pass. The aspens had changed to a golden colour and Lillian Lake was a lovely emerald green. We traversed up from Guinn's Pass to peak 238342. We had some discussion, and decided that the saddle and connecting ridge led to Mt. Kidd South. Because of the wind and coldness of the day, we decided to forgo Mt Kidd south and instead descended down from the saddle. We found a drainage and continued into the valley (bushwacking) until we crossed Galatea Creek. A brief scramble up and we met the trail and hiked out. We were interested to see that although it was 4 pm, people were still coming up.
We noted that the traffic seemed to be moving very well along the Transcanada until we got closer to Calgary then we slowed down to 20 km. This has been the third weekend that we have experienced heavy traffic on the weekend. I can't imagine what it is going to be like in the winter.
Bob Spirko has a description of an alternate route up. There are a couple of descriptions with pics on the internet. All the routes require a fair number of hours.
Thanks to Inge, Christine, Shirley, Jeannette for the company.
