Crowsnest Mtn Scramble on 25-Jun-2015

We had a great day climbing this iconic peak in the Crowsnest Pass area.

After a little bit of looking around we ended up parking at exactly the right place at the bottom of the trail up to the pass between Crowsnest Mtn and The Seven Sisters.  For the record: It is 9.1 km from the highway at the yellow 7km marker.  A few km in, take the road to Atlas Staging not to Chinook Provincial Park (which looks quite nice both close up and from on high).

We set out at 10 am and climbed quickly up to the tree line, to the base of the first cliff band, through it and to the crux gully through the second cliff band.  It took us a little while to scramble up some steps and up the chained section.  Note that with a larger group rock fall management would be crucial.

Once through the crux we were a little surprised at how far we still had to climb on a variety of trails.  We were at the summit before 1 pm.

This isolated peak provides fantastic views of the mountains in all directions.  We spent 45 minutes identifying peak that we had done or wanted to do.  This fellow was bored by it all and vacated the summit after a while.

We didn't waste a lot of time on the way down and were back at the car at 3:30.  The temperature (around 23) was made quite comfortable by the occasional breeze.  It was mainly sunny with a few clouds.

Many thanks to Alda and Arnold for joining me Carl (C/S).
