Elk Lake Summit - in Banff NP Trail Skiing on 24-Jan-2015
Brilliant day, lovely trail, great company. Who could ask for anything more?
Friday's forecast was for clouds and flurries, but the flurries were over and the clouds were minimal. This scribe hadn't done this trail in a very long time and certainly didn't remember how nice it is. We set out a little after 9, first descending to Forty Mile Creek.

Crossing Forty Mile Creek bridge We followed boot and snowshoe prints to the Cascade Amphitheatre junction. After that we were mostly on week old ski tracks.

Snowy trailOnce in the meadows the tracks were either older or had drifted in significantly. The trail breaking for the last two kilometres was somewhat onerous. That in spite of the total snow depth being a maximum of two feet. Thanks to everyone for helping out.

Lunch Ladies After a lunch at the summit we elected to not continue on to the lake.

Beautiful skies over Elk Summit meadows

Heading home, note deep tracks in shallow snow We were back at the cars a little after 4 after having met some of Aldis's snowshoe trip.
Many thanks to Jane, Rosanne, Philip, Greg and Stan (especially for the trip idea) for joining me, Carl (C/S)
