Grizzly Peak 326250 Off-Trail Hike on 24-Oct-2014
Mixed sun and cloud, cool but little wind, an excellent hike especially in this shoulder season.
There had been some snow on Thursday, which Kevin had experienced at Rawson Lake, and a lot of wind on Wednesday at Windtower but neither was a problem today. We headed up at around 9:30 and surmounted the "crux" without issue. At times we may not have picked the best of several trails in the mid-section, but really not much of an issue. A group of five young big horn rams watched our progress on the way up (and where still in the same area on our return).

First snow at around 2200 mWe were most of the way up before encountering any significant snow.

Dave is thrilled with his Kahtoola MICROspikes And even at the Grizzly/Evan Thomas col there was not a lot of snow.

Enjoying the sun at the Grizzly-Evan Thomas ColWe summited around 11:45 and enjoyed good views in all directions. We wondered particularly where the scramble routes up Evan Thomas, Denny and Potts (in the new books) lie.

Looking South towards the Opal Range and Mt Wintour It was comfortable enough to have lunch at the summit.

Heading back down to the col On the way down we encountered two other hikers whose vehicle we had spotted from the summit.
Many thanks to Dave (driving) and Kevin (photos) for joining me, Carl (C/S).
